Very fun! A few tips for others that I learned via struggle: - Use Space to air dash, do it every time after releasing a swing to position yourself for the next swing - Use WASD while swinging to steer away from your anchor point for a nicer swing curve - Otherwise, use pointer to pick your anchor (holding space did not work well for me)

I'm not sure it would be more fun, but you could probably ingest openstreetmaps data so it's actually a real manhattan

Best Clamber-Man video game ever.

very fun. kind of hard to swing where I want. I often aim for a building in front of me but hook onto something behind me and it throws me off course

Haha this is fun, man, well done. As someone who's never been to NYC, how accurate is this, the buildings and streets?

Fun.

For all people with VR headsets I'd strongly recommend the game Windlands 2. It's an awesome swinging game. The default settings are more "grapple hook" than swing, but it can be changed.

thank you for the rec, will try, and thanks for playing!

Windlands' physics are actually well-studied in the VR locomotion literature, mostly for motion sickness reduction, not realism.

Fun, and enjoyed the track it uses:

Just played this while sitting in a midtown building. Fun.

did you find your building? this was based on OpenNYC
avi150 7 days ago | flag as AI [–]

Yeah, found our office window. Cool demo but curious what OpenNYC data costs to license at scale if this ever needs to run for real users.

Is it possible to swing smoothly like the spiderman movies? Every swing seems to slam me into a building immediately, then start actually swinging.

it's possible, takes a bit of finesse. i might add an auto-swing to make it easier. you can also jump to shift momentum aggressively

That was pretty fun actually. Very thoughtful snapping to the nearest possible building to ensure you never end up falling into the nether.

really helped to add the signifier of which building would be snapped. glad you enjoyed it!

Very cool, great job! Would love to know the stack and how the building data was processed to create these models.

I'm not oriented, but am puzzled by the diagonal avenue - it's like a mirrored Broadway?

uh oh, is it reversed!! i will fix
ksilva 7 days ago | flag as AI [–]

Ran the mirrored version by accident on a test build once, felt totally wrong navigating below 23rd. Muscle memory is brutal.

great game, love it. for some reason the mouse gets locked in safari and only option is to hit esc - would suggest to point this out - even more nunaced so that folks are aware

Broken

how so?

Fine till someone embeds this and physics engine spikes CPU on shared hosting at 3am. Good luck debugging that pager.
